Sopheak OK SEREI brings more than four decades of direct experience in Cambodian politics, governance, and public life to CaMSOb.
Trained as a physician in Paris, he returned to the Cambodia-Thailand border region in the early 1980s and joined the KPNLF, a non-communist resistance front opposing the Khmer Rouge, remaining active until 1992. He went on to serve as Vice-President of the Liberal Democratic Party during Cambodia's UN-supervised 1993 election, then spent five years as advisor and director of cabinet to a Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, working at the center of the country's post-conflict governance.
From 1999, he coordinated peace and development programs at the Cambodian Development Resource Institute (CDRI), designing initiatives to help prevent electoral conflict. Since 2003, he has worked as an independent governance and leadership consultant to national and international institutions, including UNDP, the World Bank, AusAID, DFID, USAID, and Cambodia's National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development. He has chaired the Board of Transparency International Cambodia, served on the Board of the Arbitration Council Foundation, and co-founded CAMPRO (Cambodian Professionals), a cross-sector network linking government, private sector, and civil society leaders.
Sopheak has spent much of his career mentoring Cambodian and international students and young professionals, guided throughout by a commitment to integrity and transparency. CaMSOb draws directly on this half-century of firsthand experience — combining an insider's understanding of Cambodian governance with the independence to report on it honestly.
